Five years ago, on 4 June 2020, Coppejans Gallery officially opened its doors for the first time. During Antwerp Art Weekend 2025, this will be celebrated with an anniversary exhibition, some performances and an exhibition behind the windows of the Schipperskwartier.
Dubbelexpo Collections
Aan de hand van een gecureerde groepsexpo op twee locaties, blikt Coppejans Gallery op een eigenzinnige manier terug op de activiteiten van de voorbije vijf jaar. De tentoonstelling zal echter geen 'best of' selectie worden, maar veeleer een dynamisch overzicht van enkele inzichten die de werking de voorbije vijf jaar heeft opgebracht. Omdat de galerie is opgericht op basis van honderd voorbereidende gesprekken, wordt in de tentoonstelling ook een gesprekstafel geplaatst waaraan een nieuwe reeks van honderd gesprekken wordt gestart.
SchipperskwARTier: Kunst achter de ramen
Ever since its start-up in the COVID-19 period, the gallery has felt at home the neighbourhood. The Schipperskwartier is a place where everything comes together, with a daytime and a nightlife. Although primarily known as a red light district, kreeg het Falconplein ook een verbindingsfunctie tussen het Eilandje en de binnenstad. Door de projecten van de galerie op en rond het plein, bouwde de galerie een goede band op met de buurt. Op 20 locaties zal er vanaf 29 mei tot 30 juni werk te zien zijn in etalages, op terrassen en achter de ramen. Eén van de opvallendste locaties is de sexbioscoop/-shop Coconuts in de Oude Leeuwenrui. Daar zal men in de privécabines naast het klassieke aanbod, ook enkele kunstfilms kunnen bestellen.
Beuys104 - Adopt an oak
Since Bart Van Dijck raised a hundred oak trees for the Beuys100 project in 2021, a new series of oak trees have been presented to potential adopters every year. This year, there are four. Candidates are welcome on Sunday 1 July from 15:00. It is also a reunion moment for the 100+1+2+3 adopters of past years.
Anniversary party
On Saturday 31 May, we will celebrate the 5th anniversary with a performative reception by Studio DO. They will pay tribute to our heritage and the connecting properties of squares and streets by organising a festively animated reception with cups, jugs and tables made of cobblestones and street embroidery. Those who want to take a cup home afterwards can buy it and keep it as a souvenir.
Sitting on a silent wave
While his work 'Screaming in a bucket' is on top of one of the Falconplein billboards, Adriaan Rees' new LP Sitting on a silent wave will be presented with a performance on Sunday 1 June. Sitting on a silent wave van Adriaan Rees voorgesteld met een performance op zondag 1 juni.
