Maarten Inghels

Biography

Maarten Inghels

° 1988
Borgerhout,
Belgium

Maarten Inghels is a Flemish poet and writer. Inghels made his debut in 2008 with 'Tumult', the seventeenth volume in the Sandwich series by former Poet Laureate Gerrit Komrij. In addition, Maarten Inghels is also known as coordinator of The Lonely Funeral in Antwerp, an initiative in which an appropriate poem is recited at the funeral of lonely deceased people. In 2016, Inghels succeeded Stijn Vranken as Antwerp's city poet.

His literary activities are part of a much broader artistic practice. As a visual artist, he applies texts and objects to public spaces such as floating letters, land art objects and book stacks on the street. He also processes his unsold publications into unusable objects by shooting hail through them, or folding the pages into paper kites and selling them in a vending machine.
