° 1980
Antwerp,
Belgium

Nicolas Baeyens is a Belgian artist. During his first studies, Restoration/Conservation at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, he developed a critical view of art conservation.

From 2020 to 2024, Baeyens is working on the doctorate “The medium is the memory, the carrier the souvenir. In this doctorate, he will explore the memory that functions as the medium and the physical artwork that is reduced to the technical carrier of the concept. Is the artwork the packaging of an idea, just as our economic system excites consumers with evocative packaging? The content is processed and the packaging is temporary and seductive. Thus, he questions the material nature of an artwork by viewing it as a changeable carrier of an immaterial message that is shaped and reshaped by the memory of the viewer.
