Denmark in M HKA

28.01.2023 – 30.04.2023

Following the two exhibitions at Coppejans Gallery, the M HKA is also paying tribute to Denmark with a solo exhibition. They do so with the title: Denmark - Sie sollten in Ruhe weiterarbeiten - 50 years of dead letters.

For more than fifty years, the work of the Antwerp artist Denmark has been a quest for simplicity and essence. He recycles and transforms discarded information carriers such as books, magazines and newspapers into visual works of art. He conducts a symbolic and existential battle against the incessant flow of opinions and news facts in the mass media. The more (dis-) information, fake news or alternative facts, the more error is possible. fake news of alternative facts, hoe meer dwaling er mogelijk is.

On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of his artistic career, M HKA is organizing a collection presentation featuring four installations by Denmark. With his 'stilled' tablets and installations, the artist creates an interval between looking and understanding, between recognition and alienation. The installation Daily Dust contains dust from pulverized printed matter and is displayed in the museum's reading room.
