On Joseph Beuys, Adriaan Rees and the art of searching.

What is art? Is everything art and is everyone an artist? Should art be activist and can it save the world? We are happy to put these questions to gallery owner and art expert Stijn Coppejans. Supported by audio and images, he teaches us to look differently at art in general and in particular at the work of Joseph Beuys and the actions of Adriaan Rees.

The exhibition Burcht Malpertuus opened with some noise. Adriaan Rees' wild performance took us into a maelstrom of actions, feelings, symbols and sensations. It was a wonderful opening of an expo that focuses on the animal in man and the human in the animal.

In this lecture, Stijn Coppejans elaborates on the origins of this action by Adriaan Rees. This cannot be done without talking about Joseph Beuys and his contribution to broadening the concept of art. Brace yourselves for a performance in which Coppejans tries to create order in a chaotic world with an idiosyncratic eye, or was it the other way around?

At the end of the lecture, there will be a brief interview with artist Adriaan Rees and an opportunity to visit the expo with the artist.
