Biography

Frank Klerkx: Portret - Fotograaf: Bram Vis

Frans Klerkx

° 1932
Mill,
The Netherlands

Frans Klerkx created an extensive body of work consisting of designs and models in paper and cardboard. The starting point is a thick A4 sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler, a carving knife and a folding technique that he himself developed and refined.

Starting from geometric shapes such as triangle, quadrangle and circle, the artist designs constructions based on a three-dimensional application of the flat surface. This creates his 'plate sculptures' that reflect the character of the chosen shape.

After design, he has his models industrially executed in various sheet materials. The final artwork consists of two or more identical, geometric forms and derives its solidity and independence from the original fold, which acts as a bint and is therefore essential.
