Alexandra Roozen's work suggests depth, movement and light by creating interference patterns and sequences that show small differences each time. With her pencil drawings, she creates compositions where the shapes take on almost sculptural qualities, while the support is a flat piece of paper. In turn, with her intaglio prints, the paper is literally provided with protrusions and impressions, while this allows the viewer to see mainly the imaginary lines created in the process.
Roozen's pencil drawings are the result of a 'tracking investigation' into all the sensory (including auditory), physical and machine aspects of drawing with graphite pencil. Her research also concentrates on the exciting relationship between the spatiality of composition and the two-dimensional properties of paper as a support.
