Adriaan Rees placed a new sculpture in Amsterdam this week that will belong to the public domain. Above the facade of drugstore Het Heertje on Herenstraat in Centrum, a new yawner will hang. The copy is the successor to the black version that was removed in July 2020 due to associations with racism and slavery.

The new gaper is a fantasy portrait that should have an androgynous appearance, according to Adriaan Rees. On the tongue of the yawner lies a large pill, further various objects around the yawner refer to items for sale in a drugstore, such as shaving brushes, lipstick, deodorant and jars of cream.
